Introduction

The 11th Information Design International Conference - CIDI 2023, and the 11th Information Design International Conference - CONGIC 2023, are being organized by the Brazilian Society of Information Design - SBDI and the Academic Center of Agreste at the Federal University of Pernambuco - UFPE/CAA. This edition will be held in an online format and will take place between November 6th and 10th, 2023, where we will also celebrate the 20 years of the congress.

These scientific and biennial events aim to discuss and reflect on Brazilian and international information design. They will address the following tracks in information design:

In the previous conferences (Recife, 2003; São Paulo, 2005; Curitiba, 2007; Rio de Janeiro, 2009; Florianópolis, 2011; Recife, 2013; Brasília, 2015; Natal, 2017; Belo Horizonte, 2019; and Curitiba, 2021) several important researchers on Information Design and related fields presented keynote talks, click on the link below to see them:

Tracks

The submission must follow one of six tracks related to Information design. It is worth mentioning that papers must feature an original work and highlight a clear information design perspective.

Communication and media

Area of interest that addresses the role of Information Design in communication and media. The main contributions in the articles directed to this area should be focused on (but not restricted to):

– efficiency of communication processes;
– design in digital media;
– wayfinding systems;
– editorial design;
– instructional Design;
– analyses of graphic presentation;
– sign systems;
– sequential narratives (comics);
– animation;
– films, and;
– other related topics.

Aspects of management and innovation in education within the scope of Information Design are emerging and welcome discussions in this category.

Education

Area of interest that addresses the role of Information Design in communication and media. The main contributions in the articles directed to this area should be focused on (but not restricted to):

– insertion of Design in education at its various educational levels;
in teaching/learning methods and approaches from the perspective of Information Design;
– didactic/instructional artifacts, in undergraduate and graduate design curricula;
– the teaching of Information Design, and; on other related themes that are relevant to such issues.

Aspects of management and innovation in education within the scope of Information Design are emerging and welcome discussions in this category.

History and Graphic Memory

Area of interest focused on historical or historiographical approaches related to Information Design. Articles directed to this area should be focused on (but not restricted to):

– research related with visual culture;
– print culture;
– material culture and memory studies;
– investigations about pioneers, precursors and the beginnings of Information Design;
– memory and graphic language;
– the urban landscape;
– cultural heritage, of a graphic and typographic nature, and;
– other related topics that cross such issues.

It's also relevant that any research in this area should embrace discussions and criticisms that consider ethical, social and/or epistemological aspects in their practice.

Health

Area of interest that addresses the role of Information Design in health. Articles directed to this area should be focused on (but not restricted to):

– communicational effectiveness of health information systems, whether analogue or digital;
– cross-sectional studies to other areas of interest applied directly in the area of health and social well-being;
– research encompassing diverse audiences and environments, and;
– other related topics that cross such issues.

Aspects of management and innovation in health within the scope of Information Design are emerging and welcome discussions in this category.

Society

Area of interest that addresses the role of Information Design in society. IArticles directed to this area should be focused on (but not restricted to):

– vernacular design;
– craft production;
– participatory design;
– accessibility;
– design activism (advocacy);
– gender studies;
– design anthropology, and;
– other related topics that cross such issues.

Aspects of management and social innovation within the scope of Information Design are emerging and welcome discussions in this category.

Information Visualization

Area of interest that addresses the role of Information Design in infographics, information visualization and/or data/dataviz visualization. Articles directed to this area should be focused on (but not restricted to):

– visual, cognitive, behavioral and symbolic aspects;
– interpretative, exploratory and functional possibilities;
– Design processes and methodologies oriented to the representation of data in different contexts and supports;
– literacy and data coding (data culture and data literacy);
– research related with data science, statistics, or other areas that also deal directly with data or structured information, and;
– other related topics that cross such issues.

 Emerging discussions, such as aspects of other materialities of information beyond graphics (physicalizations or sonifications) within the scope of Information Design are also welcome in this category. It's also relevant that any research in this area should embrace discussions and criticisms that consider ethical, social and/or epistemological aspects in their practice.
